IN THE CLINIC:
A local anesthetic is administered to numb the affected toe, guaranteeing that you or the patient remain comfortable throughout the procedure. This ensures the precise removal of the problematic portion of the toenail, including the matrix—the source from which the nail originates—without any discomfort.
A potent chemical is then applied to eradicate any residual nail cells, followed by the placement of a sterile dressing over the area of surgery to ensure a clean and protected healing environment.
The entire process is scheduled to lasts between 45 and 60 minutes.
AFTERCARE:
We get the patient to check the dressing 2 days after the procedure, give it a soak with salt water and re-apply a dressing with
antiseptic. This is repeated daily until we review approximately one week after the procedure.
This procedure has a very high success rate, with research showing there to only a 5% chance of re-grow.
If this happens we will only charge for materials/dressings for a repeat procedure.
